Zahra has two elementary school-aged boys and two cats (one for each to avoid disputes). Zahra loves travelling with her children and experiencing all the amazing things in this world. She loves learning and is an eternal student. Recently, she has been slowly learning French, trying to keep up with her kids who are in French immersion.

Zahra is a partner at Laurel Family LawLLP. Zahra is an experienced family lawyer, mediator (currently also on the roster of Mediate393 which offers mediation at court) and arbitrator.  

Zahra came to law after working with human rights and specifically women’s rights organizations in Pakistan, Thailand and New York. Her experiences inform how she interacts with clients and her approach in resolving family law matters.

Zahra has experience at all levels of Court. While her preference is for individuals to resolve issues out of court, she regularly represents individuals beforeJudges and Arbitrators when the situation requires that. She also does appeals. She is also a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and represents children.  

Zahra is an active member of the legal community. She is an executive member of the Family Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association and is an executive member of the Mid-Career Standing Committee (MASC) of the Advocates’ Society.

Zahra also volunteers in the community and is a member of the National Steering Committee of the National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL) and is the Law Foundation of Ontario’s representative on the Ontario Justice Education Network’s (OJEN) Board of Directors.
